Recording better audio quality for phone

Good video quality is not enough; it should be integrated with good audio. As we know most of vloggers are using their mobile phones to capture videos using the main camera app or using social media cams like Instagram, Snapchat, ... So, today under this article we will talk specially about recording better audio quality on our mobile phones. Most of mobile phones these days can produce good videos, but even high end mobiles will limit in video.

 

First, we will review the factors that affect audio quality on mobile phones and we can list them as below:

• Low quality built-in mic.
• The distance between the built-in mic and the speaker.
• Wind and Surrounding noise.

To solve and eliminate the above limitations we should go with better audio solutions:

• We can get better quality we can go with external mic from respectable and well-known brand like Rode, Audio-Technica, Sony, Sennheiser, ... which offer special mics with TRRS connection. For me I am using Rode Smartlav mic and the quality difference is clear.

• Another solution is to use a TRRS adaptor and external mic and you will expand the variety of mics from wired, shotgun mic, wireless (I will write a special article on this combination), ... For me I am using Rode SC4. 

Also, I will mention a useful gear that can help us using external mic, it a smartphone rig. With it you can get a cold shoe on the top and a tripod mount on the bottom. So, you can attach the mic on the cold shoe mount and attach the phone to a tripod or a selfie stick.
